Our service process
At Microserve, we've streamlined our microscope servicing process to be as straightforward and efficient as possible for New Zealand high schools. We understand the critical role well-maintained equipment plays in Biology education, and our commitment is to provide a seamless experience from your classroom to our workshop and back again. Discover how we ensure your microscopes are always classroom-ready for optimal teaching.
Your step-by-step guide to microscope servicing
From identifying a 'dead' microscope to its return to your classroom, here's a clear breakdown of how Microserve ensures your teaching equipment is always performing at its best. Follow these simple steps to keep your school's microscopes in prime condition and ready for learning.
Step one: Identify your microscopes
Identify any "dead" (unreparable) or currently unusable microscopes needing urgent servicing on your shelves. This initial step helps us understand the scope of work required.
Step two: Order packaging
Order one or more courier-prepaid packaging boxes from Microserve. These will arrive in 3 or 4 days and contain all the packing materials you need. These boxes are reusable, so please resist the temptation to cut them open.
Step three: Pack carefully
Carefully pack the microscopes using the provided materials. There is a link under "VIDEOS" on our website that will lead you to a YouTube clip explaining how to pack the boxes correctly.
Step four: Send and notify
Send the boxes back to us. Please inform us by email at [microserve4u@gmail.com] with a list of the contents of the box(es), which we can then check. The return address will already be on the box. Importantly, INCLUDE AN APPROPRIATE ORDER NUMBER.
Step five: Receive and unload
Expect the box(es) back within two weeks, with any serviced microscopes Once you've unloaded your serviced microscopes, please promptly send the reusable boxes back to us for future use by other schools.
Step six: Invoice and payment
The box will contain an itemised invoice for the servicing provided. This is payable ASAP on receipt of invoice.
Key aspects of our servicing
Our servicing goes beyond basic repairs, focusing on critical areas that significantly enhance microscope performance for teaching. We address common issues to ensure every instrument is 'adequate for teaching' and provides clear, reliable images.
Automatic lubrication
The lubricating grease used by manufacturers tends to degrade and harden over time, making adjustment knobs stiff and susceptible to damage through students forcing them unnecessarily. We expertly re-lubricate each instrument received, restoring smooth operation.
Electrical faults
We address electrical faults related to sample illumination. For safety purposes and compliance, we employ a registered electrician for any such repairs, ensuring your equipment is safe for student use.
Objective cleaning
Over time, objectives become clouded for various reasons, impairing image quality. We use special solutions and techniques for thorough cleaning; please do not attempt to clean them yourself as this can cause irreversible damage.
Coarse and fine adjustment knob repair
When faulty, we replace coarse and fine adjustment knobs totally with an appropriate used part, ensuring smooth and precise focusing capabilities essential for effective classroom use.
Thorough cleaning
Beyond specific repairs, all microscopes are carefully cleaned inside and out before returning. This ensures they are not only functionally sound but also aesthetically ready for immediate classroom use.
Ensuring quality education for students
At the senior level, especially in Biology, students require clear images to perform well in their assessments. It is quite unfair to expect students to achieve their best when using sub-standard instruments. Microserve is dedicated to providing high-quality, reliable microscopes. Kicking things off is easy; all the details are on our website, [microserve.nz], and in regular emails sent to technicians via the STANZ technicians' forum. Don't let faulty equipment hold your students back – partner with us to ensure their success.
